From February 26th to March 1st, 2024, a group of students and teachers from five different countries gathered in Delmenhorst, Germany, for the first mobility of the Let’s do IT project. The project, funded by the Erasmus+ program, aims to promote digital skills, intercultural awareness, and, more focused on this first meeting, mental and physical health among young learners. The host country, Germany, and the host school, Max-Planck-Gymnasium from Delmenhorst, welcomed the participants from Poland, Latvia, Italy, and Romania with a warm reception and a tour of the city, as well as with icebreaking activities and a very fun and active bowling evening.
The first day was focused on getting to know each other, the hosting team preparing a very nice opening ceremony alongside with a very deep speech from the headmistress of the Max-Planck-Gymnasium. Also, during the opening ceremony, students had the opportunity to present themselves and their school very briefly because the icebreaking and and the lanes of the bowling room where waiting. No until visiting the water tower of the town.
Delmenhorst, located near Bremen, is a historic town with a rich cultural heritage and a modern flair.
The main theme of the first meeting was Taking care of our own Mental and Physical health. The participants engaged in various activities and workshops that focused on this topic, such as yoga, sports activities, art and drama workshops and relaxation techniques. They also learned how to use digital tools and platforms to support their well-being, such as apps, podcasts, blogs, and online games.
Waking up very early, we had the opportunity to visit the city of Bremen where the students were divided in two groups, by their interest, one of the group being able to be part of an music workshop and the other to be part of an art workshop.
At the end of this second day, the group has already been bounded, the students but also the teachers too, getting to know each-other and starting to collaborate.
This day brought some new opportunities as the Latvian, Italian, Polish and German teachers prepared workshops for the students. The students were divided into groups and had the opportunity to be part of the drama workshop held by the Latvian team, or also part of the Writing workshop held by the Italians, or the Art workshop held by the Polish. Also, the German team prepared workshops on Yoga and Sports activities. All these workshops had been conceived to approach the theme of Mental and/or Physical health as the students got to be prepared for the next day.
The first mobility of the Let’s do IT project was a success, as it achieved its objectives and created a positive impact on the participants. The students and teachers gained new knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will help them improve their mental and physical health, as well as their digital competence and intercultural understanding. They also made new friends and memories that will last for a long time. The next mobility of the project will take place in Latvia, where the participants will explore another aspect of the project: European school (cultural diversity, European citizenship, cultural heritage)
The fourth day was devoted for the creation of digital materials that are focusing on the main theme. There wore 9 groups created and also 9 topics related to the main theme. The students had to prepare a material, or digital product, that could be used as a podcast or video podcast material.
These materials had later been gathered and uploaded under 9 QR codes that were hidden in the school library for the students to find and use to learn about how they can take care of their Mental and Physical health.
The fifth and last day of the meeting was devoted finishing the podcast materials, the digital products, testing the concept and hiding the QR codes in the library. Also, these was the day that the local press visited the school, being interested in our project.
