Schools involved in the project

Max-Planck-Gymnasium

As a general secondary school, the Max-Planck-Gymnasium offers a wide range of educational opportunities. About one thousand students from ten up to 19 years attend our school which has a staff of about 100 teachers. Since 2008 the Max-Planck-Gymnasium belongs to the “European schools” of the federal state of Lower Saxony and since 2017 to the MINT-EC schools in Germany, a network of STEM schools.
The Max-Planck-Gymnasium is a lively European school with a wide European experience. We have many European partner schools, European and intercultural topics are implemented across our curricula, we have participated in four former Comenius projects and two Erasmus+ projects and have coordinated several of them. Our strength is our competence in teaching foreign languages and new technologies. Those skills are indispensable for studying in Europe and for the European job market. Thus, we want to ensure that our students learn English in a sustainable way. Bilingual courses in English are only one part of this. Many different exchange programs and European projects are another to ensure that our students actively improve their foreign language skills. We also support our students in ICT methods, many of which are defined in our school curriculum.
The city of Delmenhorst, as a former industrial city, has many structural problems. The loss of jobs, a relatively high unemployment rate and the task of integrating many students with a variety of cultural backgrounds are the biggest issues to deal with. Our special challenge is to offer each child a wide range of education to ensure that no child will be left behind.
We believe that a broad foreign language education combined with ICT skills and intercultural exchange is the key in our knowledge-based European society. This can contribute to successful participation in society and professional life in a fast-changing world.
